About us

Brassneck Theatre Company sprung up out of the desire to produce quality theatre in the west of the city, and make it accessible to everyone regardless of class, colour, gender, race or creed.

Fellow local actor Conor O'Neil and myself got together in early 2007 and decided that there was a huge market in the west of the city for quality theatre. As actors you can find yourself out of work for extremely long periods, and sitting around waiting for work to come to you, can be frustrating and soul destroying. So, we decided to set up a theatre company to create and produce our own work and determine our own futures.

And so, 'Brassneck Theatre Company' was born! The name for the company came from what we had to go through in order to set it up and produce a play. Everything from beg, borrow to steal (well not quite), became the only way possible to see this venture through.

This resulted in our First production of 'Danny And The Deep Blue Sea', at Irelands newest entertainment venue, 'The Baby Grand' at the Opera house in April 2007. Nick Hardin our director had come to me with this piece a year previous with a view to performing it somewhere. Within a year of meeting, it became possible to put the play on and only through our own company were we able to do so.

In August of that year at Féile An Phobail, (the West Belfast Festival), we staged our second production 'Marathon', a play about two friends training for the New York marathon, and the show was a huge hit!

That was followed up in August 2008 with our third hit production, 'The Flags', about two lifeguards on the second worst beach in Ireland, once more at the West Belfast Festival.

We continued our wonderful association with Féile An Phobail in August 2009 with our fourth production, the world premiere of Brenda Murphy’s ‘A Night With George’. It was the major success story of this years Féile and sold out for the entire run.

It seems that this piece has firmly put Brassneck on the map and as such, has prompted us to take it on tour in late September.

The dates will be published on our website shortly, so if you missed out first time round, watch this space to see if gorgeous George will be appearing at a venue near you in the not so distant future! ;)

Brassneck Theatre Company was formed in 2007. We intend to produce challenging, thought-provoking, ground breaking drama through the medium of theatre. We will endeavour to break the elitist stereotype that exists within theatre by making our work accesible to everyone regardless of class, colour, gender, race or creed.
